“We were impressed by the high memory bandwidth and capacity of the AMD EPYC processor cores. Powered by AMD EPYC processors, our Lenovo ThinkSystem servers are optimized to handle very demanding scientific research and AI workloads.”
To give researchers access to the compute resources they need to further their work, BITS Pilani built a central HPC platform based on Lenovo ThinkSystem SR665 V3 and SR645 V3 servers, powered by AMD EPYC™ 9004 Series processors.
Customer Problem
Previously, research groups at BITS Pilani were responsible for acquiring their own compute resources with their own funding—typically lower-end servers that didn’t meet the rigorous demands of academic research.
Lenovo Solution
BITS Pilani deployed a cluster based on nine Lenovo ThinkSystem SR665 V3 and ThinkSystem SR645 V3 servers, powered by 1,100 AMD EPYC™ 9004 Series processor cores as well as NVIDIA L40S GPUs.
Business Impact
Offering a total peak performance of 100 TFLOPS on CPU and 5.8 PFLOPS on GPU, the Lenovo cluster will empower academics from across the institute to advance their work and transform their ideas into impactful solutions for a better tomorrow.
“Thanks to our new Lenovo and AMD infrastructure, researchers can analyze larger and more complex datasets than was previously possible.”
Virendra S Shekhawat, Unit Chief, IT Services Unit, BITS Pilani
